Fix-it Clinic

Bring up to five small household electronics, clothing, jewelry or other items to get help repairing them at this first come, first served fix-it event. It will run from noon to 3 p.m., Feb. 16 at the Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave. E.  

 

Dakota County quilt show

Join the Star Quilters for its 24th annual quilt show, “Color Makes Me Happy,” featuring quilts of many colors and designs. This will run from Feb. 19 through March 15. The show is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the Lawshe Memorial Museum, 130 Third Ave. N. Admission is $5. For more information visit www.dakotahistory.org and search “quilt show.”

 

Moonlight bowling 

Join the Inver Grove Heights Fire Department and Auxiliary for a moonlight bowling fundraiser on Feb. 23. Check-in will begin at Drkula’s 32 Bowl, 6710 Cahill Ave., Inver Grove Heights, at 10:30 a.m., with games starting at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $20 per person, which includes three games, bowling shoes and two Strike Pot tickets. On the day of the event, $150 in Strike Pot money will be given away. Participants must be at least 8 to bowl. If you would like to reserve a spot for bowling or if you would like to donate, contact Sue Erickson at 651-260-0768 or smericks@comcast.net. When making a reservation, you will need the number of spots, contact name, phone and email. Checks can be made payable to Inver Grove Heights Fire Department Auxiliary. 

Inver Hills community band concert

The Inver Hills Community Band will be performing a free concert on Feb. 11 at 7:30 pm in the Simley High School auditorium, 2920 80th St. E., Inver Grove Heights. 

The program will feature Glenn Fisher as a soloist on “Sketches for Flute,” other selections will be “Fantasia on British Sea Songs,” “Marriage of Figaro,” “Lexicon of the Gods,” “Swing,” and other entertaining works. Thompson Park Master Plan community open house

Dakota County is updating the 2005 Thompson County Park Master Plan and creating a new Natural Resources Management Plan for the park. During the month of February, they will be seeking input and feedback on those ideas. Input on the concepts will be used to develop preferred and 10-year implementation plans in the Phase 4 of the project. There will be an open house from 5 to 7 p.m., Feb. 11 at Thompson Park, 1200 Stassen Lane, West St. Paul. You can also provide input online through Feb. 28 by visiting

Walk and Talk

No agendas or speeches, come get some steps in while getting to your know your local police officers and firefighters, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., on Feb. 11 at the West St. Paul Sports Dome, 1655 Livingstone Ave.

 

Mendota VFW garage sale

Donations for the Mendota VFW garage sale will be accepted through March 31 at Vasatka Goers Post 6690, 1323 Sibley Memorial Highway. Donations will be accepted noon to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Items not accepted include computers, computer equipment, TVs, furniture, mattresses or box springs. The garage sale will take place Thursday through Saturdays beginning March 14 and ending April 6. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Thursdays and Fridays, and it will be open noon to 5 p.m., on Saturdays. All proceeds benefit VFW and auxiliary programs. For more information, call 651-688-7408.

 

Finger knitting

Learn the basics of knitting by using just yarn and your hands. It’s the perfect activity to bring with you wherever you go. Presented by the Textile Center, registration is required. Geared for adults and youth ages 12 and older, this will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Feb. 12 at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. Call 651-554-6800 for more information.

 

Valentine’s Day Love Catchers

Turn a dream catcher into a love catcher made out of heart shapes filled with painted colors, gems, woven ribbons and hanging beads and bobbles. Make beautiful overlapping heart paintings as a warm up. Presented by the Art Room, registration is required. South St. Paul 

book club

Join the South St. Paul Book Club for its monthly discussion. The afternoon group will meet at the library, 106 Third Ave. N., from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Feb. 13 and the evening group meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Feb. 14. February’s book is “The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane” by Lisa See. 

 

Blood drive

Inver Hills Community College, 2500 80th St. E., Inver Grove Heights, is hosting a blood drive Feb. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Heritage Hall Room 203. Writing boxes

From 10:30 a.m., to noon, Feb. 14, learn how to write a letter and use supplies from our Writing Boxes to make heartfelt notes for family and friends. Open to kids ages 3 to 8, this will take place at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N.
