Dakota County Historical Society to host genealogy workshop

The Dakota County Historical Society will host a genealogy workshop on Saturday, April 27 at the Lawshe Memorial Museum, 130 Third Ave. N., in South St. Paul. The workshop will start at 11 a.m. and last until 2 p.m. Admission to the event is $25 per person, or $10 if you are a member of the Dakota County Historical Society, or a research volunteer for the Adopt a WWI Soldier project. Registration for this event includes a boxed lunch.

The workshop will take place in the meeting room on the second floor of the museum.

The workshop will include three different sessions to aid in your genealogy research. The first session will be “An Introduction to Genealogy” and explore what resources are available to you as a researcher, as well as how to organize your research. The second session will focus on how to research a World War I service member. This will include helpful information for those working on the Adopt a WWI Soldier project for DCHS, but also for anyone conducting military research. The final session will be a tutorial on how to properly scan images and documents, as well as a tutorial on how to use a flash-drive or external storage device for your records.
