Roseville Area Schools held an event the morning of May 29 to recognize its graduating American Indian students. It was the first of what will become an annual event for the district. There was breakfast for the graduates and their families, where school board members, the superintendent and school leaders remarked on their achievements and heard from the students about their plans for the future. They were given traditional stoles to wear at graduation, along with an eagle feather and quilt, both native traditions at graduation. The event concluded with photos with family and a smudging ceremony. It was an opportunity to recognize and celebrate tradition, culture and accomplishment.
