Safe summer nights

The St. Paul Police Department’s Safe Summer Nights program returns again this summer. The Safe Summer Nights program is designed to provide opportunities for police officers to become acquainted with residents of the neighborhoods they serve over a meal rather than during times of trouble. The initiative began in 2014 when Safe Summer Nights partnered with the St. Paul Police Department and the St. Paul Parks and Recreation Department to host events in St. Paul that brought neighborhood families and police officers together in a picnic-type setting. Some upcoming Safe Summer Nights events include:

• June 13: Linwood Recreation Center, 860 St. Clair Ave.

• June 20: Dayton’s Bluff Recreation Center, 800 Conway St.

• June 27: Rice Recreation Center, 1021 Marion St.
