Dakota County Historical Society to open new exhibit at the Sibley Historic Site

The Dakota County Historical Society will open “The Four Sarah Sibleys” exhibit tour at the Sibley Historic Site in Mendota, Minn., on Saturday, June 22. The exhibit tour will take place every Saturday at 12 p.m. until the site closes on Monday, Sept. 2.

Admission to the tour is $6 per person, or $4 for members of the Dakota County Historical Society, Minnesota Historical Society and the Friends of the Sibley Historic Site. The Sibley Historic Site is located at 1357 Sibley Memorial Highway in Mendota.

“The Four Sarah Sibleys” exhibit tour will allow guests to visit a new exhibit that features the four Sarah Sibleys that were a part of Henry Sibley’s life. While on the tour, visitors will learn more about his mother, sister, wife and daughter who all shared the same first and last (or maiden) name. Artifacts include handwritten letters by Sarah Jane and Sarah Alexandrine, as well as a self-portrait by Sarah Jane. This special tour will include the second floor of the Sibley House, which is only accessible via staircase.
